After decades of waiting, the sequel of James Cameron's blockbuster Avatar (2009), officially titled Avatar: The Way of Water will arrive in theatres this year. The first teaser trailer of the film was finally released online and it's expectedly surreal. The ocean-centric sequel casts Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, reprising their roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri respectively. Joining the cast are Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Michelle Yeoh, Oona Chaplin and more.

The first footage from Avatar: The Way of Water opens with a look at the stunning landscapes of Pandora and its underwater world. The visuals effects are on full display as we spot the Na'vi and multiple sea creatures gliding through the waters. We also get a closer look at Jake and Neytiri along with the Sully family which is the main focus of Avatar 2. The teaser trailer is all about the breathtaking visuals. The only dialogue we hear is when Jake declares, “Wherever we go, this family is our fortress.” Watch the video here:

Avatar: The Way of Water is set a decade after the events of the original film. It explores the Sully family and the Sully kids we see in the teaser are a major highlight. Apart from the Na'vi kids, we also get a look at a human child among the residents of Pandora. While the main plot is unknown, we do get a brief look at some dramatic moments. It remains to be seen where it all leads.

A new poster from the film was also revealed with the trailer drop.

The film arrives in theatres on December 16 this year. The 2009 film will also arrive in cinemas on September 23 as a primer for the upcoming release.
